An Ode To Vance By Gordon Buttars (November 22, 2025) |

You were too pure and never meant For this fallen world to endure. Our Father had a greater work for you, Your calling and election sure In the world beyond the veil. All you needed here was to gain a body. A body flawed, unable to survive. We waited for you with joy To welcome you to our family. You came but couldn’t stay But for a brief moment in time, Time only measured by man. But to God, past, present, and future are before his eyes. He knows the end from the beginning, And everything is in his hands. Life is fleeting for us all and we don’t know His plan for us and our time to go. It has been two score years and more years Since you graced our lives, A lifetime of love you gave in a few short hours. When you left us we shed many a tear, Our sadness and grief consumed an entire year. It is said that time heals all wounds. That it has, but you left a mark on our hearts. There have been times over the years we have felt you near. We’re sure you know we often visit your resting place, And one day we will rest at your side. When we too pass through the veil, We know you will be there to welcome us. You will call us Mother and Father, And we will call you son. |
