As Plans Go

(September 21, 2026)

When I was a young man
I knew just what I wanted to do.
I thought it was a great plan,
something I had thought through.
But as plans always go,
They don’t go as planned.

My plan worked for a few years
It took a lot of effort and hard work,
Through sweat, toil and a few tears.
Working long and hard I never did shirk.
But as plans always go,
They don’t go as planned.

So what was I going to do?
I needed to find a Plan B.
So I found something new;
But it really wasn’t me.
But as plans always go,
They don’t go as planned.

By then I was getting older.
I tried Plans C, D, and E,
Anything I could shoulder,
But alas nothing came easy
Because as plans always go,
They don’t go as planned.

With each and every plan I tried,
God knew what was in store,
He was always right by my side
After the closing of every door,
Knowing as plans always go,
They don’t go as planned.

With no other options left,
And my health had fled
He provided me with Plan F
and supplied my daily bread.
Sometimes you have to let go
And trust in a greater plan.

God had reserved a gift
That I never knew I had,
Now I write stories to uplift
And make the heart glad.
With no other plan to follow,
I go where He will have me go.

After my plans were unsuccessful,
There is a great and eternal plan
That if I am true and faithful
Will the eternities span.
So after all there is a plan
Far more glorious in the end.
