Enterprise

  Enterprise was her name.
A ship destined for fame.
Back in thirty-eight, she joined the fleet
And prepared for an enemy to defeat.
When the enemy did attack,
She was ready for payback.
Battle after battle she was in,
Some she did not win
But always came back to fight again.
At Midway with her sisters
they turned the tide.
One by one her sisters did succumb,
Leaving her alone to hold the line
Until others were ready to come,
And together they battled the wind divine
Until a kamikaze bent on suicide
Sent her once again stateside.
Her repairs complete,
The enemy was in defeat.
Ready to fight once more,
She never returned to the war.
For all her scars
She earned twenty battle stars.
For her service grand,
America remained a free land.
For her value great,
A cutting torch was her fate.
Others came before
And after her there were more
That bore the name with pride,
Each their own worth to provide.
Enterprise was her name,
Never, ever forget her fame!
