Psalm of the Chosen

  It has been said:
Many are called,
but few are chosen
because their hearts
are set on the things
of this world.

Yet the inverse is also true:
Many are chosen,
but few are rarely called.
Chosen for what?
To be joint-heirs with Christ
to inherit a mansion
in the kingdom of God.

Why are they not called?
Perhaps it is because
they do not need the experience
that a particular calling affords.
They serve quietly and faithfully
without pretense in many other ways.

Perhaps those who are called
need the growth and refinement
that a calling provides;
while others who are as competent,
willing, and able are not called,
regardless of status or background.

Do not feel you are not wanted, needed,
or valued because you are not called.
He who calls and He who chooses
knows your heart, faith, hope, charity
and your good works.

You are called and chosen to be a disciple.
The reward of all the Father has
is no less for those who are chosen
but not called to lead
as it is for those who are.

Be faithful, be true,
and do what you can
to the best of your ability
with a willing and contrite heart.
In the end you are chosen,
called, and anointed to be
Kings and Queens in glory!
