The Eye

“What’s the status?” Captain Tevia queried. The ship had been monitoring a cloud like object approach incredibly fast, coming out of nowhere.

“Assemble the station guard!” he ordered.

The red jackets manned their stations not knowing what it was, what it was gong to do, or what they were supposed to do. Surely their laser side arms wouldn’t do against whatever it was.

The object took up position just astern of the battle cruiser in orbit around Avalon standing guard over the colony on the surface.

No movement for some time, the ships sensors detecting nothing, as if it was’t even there. Captain Tevia deiced to send out a scout probe to investigate further.

No sooner had had the hangar bay curtain opened, the cloud blinked, a gigantic eyeball staring into the open hangar, protected from open space only by a force field.

“Run!” the chief of the guard shouted.

Abandoning the hangar, they ran for cover, if there was any.

Detecting movement, the cloud enveloped the ship and disappeared as if into nothing.

“What’s happening?” the captain inquired.

“Our senors detect we are 400 parsects away and moving faster than theoretically possible.”

“If it wanted to kill us,” Captain Tevia reasoned, “it would have done so by now. But where is it taking us?”
