The Light

“It’s a lovely evening for a walk, Mike, What do you say?”

“I’m game. There’s no moon and the sky is clear. It should be a good night for star gazing.”

Mike and Samantha left the house and strolled down the lane. Living in rural eastern Colorado the nearest neighbour bordering their 1200 acre farm was two miles away.

Walking hand in hand Samantha pointed out the constellations. An occasional meteor flashed through the sky before denigrating.

Mike said, “Bill Walters found another crop circle in one of his wheat fields yesterday.”

“They seem to be showing up all over the county,” Sam reflected.

“Fortunately, I haven’t noticed any in ours.” Mike affirmed.

“Do you really think they’re caused by aliens?” Sam wondered.

Mike declared, “That’s what folks say. I think it’s just wind patterns lodging the wheat.”

“But what if there really are people out there?” Sam asked. “Just look at all those stars. They say there are billions planets and a lot could have life on them.”

“There very well could be,” Mike reasoned. “If there are, I think they’re probably very much like us.”

"What’s that?!” Sam asked. Startled, she grabbed his arm.

Suddenly a brilliant light appeared out of nowhere in the middle of the lane.
