I was only a boy of seven
On that holy night
When the angle from heaven
appeared glorious and bright.
My father, brothers, and I
Were frightened at first
When we looked to the sky
And the vision upon us burst.
The angle told us not to fear.
The message that he bore
Was that salvation was near,
With the promise of life evermore.
For unto to us that day
The Savior was born
And unto us the angel did say
Go to the stable all forlorn.
Then to our amazement
A host of angles did appear
Above us in the firmament
Singing praises of revere.

When the angels did depart
We left in great haste,
Their words burning in my heart
To Bethlehem we raced.
We found Him as the angle said
Wrapped in swaddling clothes
Asleep in a humble cowshed
Fulfilling the ancient oaths.
I knew in my young heart
That I had seen my Savior,
A feeling that never did depart
And never did waver.
When I found Him again
Many, many years later,
Myself I could not restrain
From following Him and never falter.
I left everything I had behind
And followed Him to the end.
I witnessed Him die for all mankind,
Rise again, and into heaven ascend.
