The Toy Car

(October 2, 2024)

“Wow! That's the best birthday present ever,” Six year old Benny exclaimed. “It’s just what I’ve always wanted, Gee Thanks Dad. Where’d you get it?”

“I know you've wanted one and I saw this in the pawn shop window so I stopped to have a look. The guy said he got it from some wield old man. The price was a little stiff but nothing's too good for you, Sport.”

“Take me for a ride,” Bethany his eight year old sister begged.

“Yeah I want to go too,” his cousin Freddy asked.

“But there’s only room for one,” Benny protested.

That’s okay I’ll sit on the front,” Bethany suggested.

Benny got behind the wheel with his sister perched in front.

“Gee the peddles are kind of stiff,” Give me a push Freddy.

The car started moving as Freddy pushed, then like a spell was on it, it took off, faster and faster. Bethany screamed out of fear or delight, it wasn’t certain. The toy car was going faster and faster. All Freddy could do was hang on, his body stretched out behind him as the toy car flew down the street.

The car picked up speed as it went down the hill, then in a flash, they disappeared. To this day know one knows what happened to them.

It turns out they went back in time and lived out their lives. One day when Ben was an old man, he came across the old toy car and took it to a pawn shop to see what he could get for it.
