The Vortex

(October 1, 2025)

  Ring, ring.
That’s odd, why is someone calling me from my own number?”
“Hello?” I ask cautiously.
“Good, I’m glad you answered.”
“Who is this?”
“It’s me, I mean you.”
“Yeah, right.”
“Wait don’t hang up. I don’t have time to explain but you have to listen to me. This is serious.”
“Were are you, I mean where am I?”
“More like when are we.”
“Tomorrow afternoon you were on state road thirty-nine and something happened, I don’t know what. A tornado like funnel cloud descended our of nowhere. No wind, clouds or anything, just a swirling vortex that sucked my car right up and carried me away.”
“Where are you I mean where am I?”
“Eleven years and three months in the future. Believe me you don’t want to be here. If you think the world is mixed up now, you ain’t seen anything yet. I swear someone opened the asylum and let the crazies out. I don’t have time to go into detail. Just don’t go down that road tomorrow. You’ve got to stop the madness from happening.”
“How? What do I need to do?”
“You have to stop Senator Walker from getting elected president. He’s the one who started all this.”
“How am I supposed do that?”
“I don’t know, but you’ve got to figure out a way!”
