What's the Rush

Where is everyone going?
Why are they in such a hurry?
What are they doing
In such a flurry?

I wonder who they are,
And where they came from too—
Driving near and far,
Where are they headed to?

Cars and trucks go zooming past
As if I were standing still.
Everyone is going so fast;
It must be how they get their thrill.

Even the cars in Hometown USA
Going up and down Main Street
Look like a freeway in LA
Trying every light to beat.

Who might they be?
What is their business?
If only I could flee
And get away from the dizziness.

Not only here on the ground,
But look to the sky.
There is motion all around.
I have to ask myself, why?

Why can’t the world slow down
And everyone catch their breath!
