Youth: It’s Such a Fleeting Thing

(September 26, 2026)

Youth: it’s such a fleeting thing.
I know, because I was young once,
Not knowing what the years would bring.

I didn’t think I was bad to look at,
But the girls didn’t seem to notice.
Maybe it was the old car I drove?

It wasn’t until I got a Mustang
That they began to notice me,
Or was it the snazzy wheels?

Then I found a young lady
who didn’t care what I drove.
At that time it was on old pickup.

She was the one I chose,
Or was it her that chose me?
I’d say it was a lot of both!

We have stuck by each other
Through good and bad times
And have dealt with it all.

Youth: it’s such a fleeting thing.
I used to think I knew so much,
But I don’t know as much as I thought.

Once I worked long hours
And got a lot done in a day,
But now I’m good for only a while.

My stamina isn't what it was
And I need a nap or two a day.
The rest can wait a day or two.

My health is still good,
But I don’t stand as tall
And I shake a lot.

Youth: it’s such a fleeting thing.
My girl hasn’t had it so good
And can’t do what she once loved.

So, I do for her what I can.
When I made her mine
It was for come what may.

We’ve had nearly fifty years.
How many more there are,
Neither of us knows for sure.

We don’t know who will go first.
But we’re certain, this life isn’t all
And youth is an eternal thing.
